Game Recap by Orin Day

Duke spoiled Georgia Tech's first top 25 appearance in 15 years by coming into Alexander Memorial Coliseum and dominating the inside throughout. The Devils jumped out to an early lead and Tech, who had no answer for Chante Black on either end of the floor, never really threatened. Black, who scored almost every time she got the ball inside, finished with 16 points, 13 boards, and 4 blocks. Carrem Gay and Keturah Jackson came off the bench to tally 8 boards apiece, while no Tech player had more than 6. Overall Duke outrebounded Tech 48-31, and amazingly had more offensive boards than the Jackets managed on defense. While the Devils scored at will inside (outscoring Tech 42-24 in the paint), things finally started looking up from long range. In the second half Abby Waner finally broke her multigame 3 point drought, dropping two treys en route to a 15 point night. Wanisha Smith and Jasmine Thomas also capitalized on the Tech zone, going 2-3 and 1-2 respectively from distance, and for the first time in a long time Duke was over 40% from three as a team.

The one negative for Duke was that the turnover bug carried over from the State game, 24 turnovers was far too sloppy for a game that really wasn't close after the first couple breaks. There will need to be significant improvement in that area before facing Tennessee in Cameron on Monday night.
