The Nutshell by Orin DayDuke bounced back from Monday night's loss and a mostly lethargic first half to double up the Hokies in the second en route to an 85-50 win. The two teams played even over the first eight minutes, then Duke's inside play took over as the Devils took a 7 point lead into the locker room. 40 of the 51 first half points were in the paint and neither team scored from beyond the arc.
The second half was a different story as Duke doubled up the Hokies 56-28, shooting almost 60% and 5-9 from three point range. For Duke Joy Cheek, Chante Black, Wanisha Smith, and Krystal Thomas were in double figures, and all 12 Blue Devils scored. Duke outrebounded the Hokies 50-35, including 8 from Carrem Gay in 16 minutes and 7 from Keturah Jackson in 13 minutes. For Tech Brittany Cook had a 14 & 10 double double and Andrea Barbour led all scorers with 15, but no other Hokie scored more than 5 points. Duke also valued the ball with just 13 turnovers in a game that was often up and down the floor.
