Duke started out quickly but eventually stalled against a tough Georgia Southern zone defense on the way to a 69-42 win in Cameron. All five Duke starters scored in double figures, but none more than 12, and shooting woes continued to be an issue. One of Georgia Southern's team goals was to hold Duke under 70 points, and they were able to achieve this by limiting Duke to just 11 points in the last 12:30. "Their zone slowed us down in terms of our ability to put points on the board," said Joanne P. McCallie. "Our three point percentage was terrible and we shouldn't have shot so many of them." Jasmine Thomas, who pulled down seven boards and had three steals said "We were aggressive in the first half, but would have liked to have had more in the second half...we lost energy and got a little slow on our rotations. It's something we'll have to do better in the next game." A bright spot for Duke was the return of Keturah Jackson to the starting lineup. KJ began at the point and dished out 5 assists, shooting a quality 5-7 from the floor and adding 6 boards. Duke has the weekend off before hosting Charlotte on Monday night. |
