THE NUTSHELL: Krystal Thomas, Devils, Do it All Against Friars

Krystal Thomas came off the bench for one of the most oustanding games of her career as Duke beat Providence 88-63 in Cameron. Duke started off strong with a small lineup of Christmas, Cheek, Jackon, Jasmine Thomas, and Keturah Jackson, opening with a 10-0 run. But that early lead dwindled to just 4 as Providence went inside, so Duke went big with Kathleen Scheer, K.Thomas, and Allison Vernerey. The Friars had no answer for that Devil lineup on either end, as Thomas scored 9 unanswered points and kept Providence from scoring in the paint for the remainder of the first half. Krystal finished 8-10 from the floor and 5-5 from the line with 10 rebounds, four blocks, two assists, and just one turnover. Providence couldn't pack the lane because Duke was also on fire from outside, nearly shooing 50% from three point range. Jasmine Thomas provided 18 points including raining in 4-5 from three while Karima Christmas scored 15, 3-4 from long range. Duke also did a great job of making the extra pass with 24 of their 36 field goals coming on assists. "[It was] just a great basketball game for us in terms of intensity, in terms of start, in terms of balance and attack," said Joanne P. McCallie. "I was extremely proud of Krystal and her efforts, just a dominant performance, really fun to see. I thought she was outstanding." Duke stands at 12-2 entering conference play with a mid-week trip to Clemson.
