Joy had trouble getting decent looks against Wake, hitting only a short jumper and stickback. Wake baited her into some cheap fouls (which she unfortunately bit on), but Joy did at least grab 7 rebounds in her 28 minutes.

Bridgette Mitchell

This was B's best game of her career, an end-to-end study of dominance. She had 7 offensive boards, a couple of which led directly to scores. Mitchell's 2 treys were (incredibly) a career high, but she did her real work was at the foul line, where she went 6-8. Mitchell did have 3 turnovers in the second half, but they were mostly errors of commission. More impressively, Mitchell's defense on Waters took Wake's leading scorer out of the game. This was a game where Bridgette's usual energy was fully harnessed and under control. It's never been a matter of physical ability for Bridgette, but rather decision-making. If she matches her energy with this level of focus, she will continue to have a very successful senior year.

Karima Christmas

Karima had a steal & layup in the first half but soon went to the bench with two fouls. She made up for that in the second half with her expected ultra-high energy, grabbing 4 rebounds and picking off 2 steals. She scored on a stickback and a drive in the second half, and also had a pass to Mitchell for a score. Her most impressive play was sending back a shot by Durham native Asia Williams that Duke controlled.

Keturah Jackson

This was a solid performance by KJ. She used her size advantage to great effect against 5-4 Wake point guard Brooke Thomas, who was pretty much a non-factor despite her speed. KJ's two early jumpers pushed Duke to the lead, but it was her defense and rebounding (6 boards) were especially impressive. Jackson is getting more and more comfortable as a starting guard, trying to avoid taking bad shots and set up good ones.

Jasmine Thomas

Jasmine didn't have a vintage game, going only 5-14 from the field and committing 4 turnovers. She did make her presence felt in energizing Duke's big first-half run, scoring 11 points in just six minutes of play. That included a couple of short jumpers, a three, a steal & layup and a couple of free throws. She missed a number of shots in the second half, but did hit a crucial long jumper to stem one of Wake's runs. Jasmine also had big assists to Jackson and K.Thomas after another Wake run.

Krystal Thomas

Krystal exerted little influence on the game during the first half, as Wake's double-teams reduced her to a single shot: a desperation three. She did managed a block and a couple of rebounds, but she was mostly a very tall decoy. She was a key player for Duke in the second half, posting up much harder & quicker and getting great-looking shots as a result. Thomas may have gained confidence with her shot-blocking in the second half, as she made things difficult for Wake after a period where they got to the basket any time they wanted. The big negative in the second half was her going 0-4 from the line.

Allison Vernerey

2nd600-10-00-000-1-10011

Allison struggled with Wake doubling her every time she had the ball, turning it over twice. She did play impressive defense, as she drew a charge, blocked a jumper & grabbed the rebound and swatted another shot. Her one basket was a 13' jumper, the longest shot I've seen her hit this year.

Chelsea Hopkins

Chelsea was the first of the deep subs to come into the game, but didn't have any measurable impact during her three minute stint.

Shay Selby

Shay worked hard during her six minute shift, getting a gorgeous stickback and going up for boards. She did have a late turnover that led to Wake getting foul shots late in the first half.

Alexis Rogers

Alexis was in for just one minute, missing a good look inside and committing a foul.
