Duke forced 26 Virginia Tech turnovers and bounced back from 25% first half shooting to notch a 69-38 victory tonight in Cameron. The Blue Devils led just 22-15 at the break but broke the game open with two big second half runs: a 15-4 jaunt to open, then a 22-5 run starting at the 14:32 mark. "We were in control despite the low score and the margin," said Duke Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie. "You can always control rebounding, sometimes assists and turnovers, but you can't control whether the ball goes in or not." "We kept shooting," said Krystal Thomas, who returned to the starting lineup and led Duke with 17 points and six rebounds. "You never want to miss easy layups by the basket, but we were playing great defense and attacking, and points in the paint are what you want." Duke completely shut down Tech shooter Lindsay Biggs (5 points on 2-11 FG) and Utahya Drye. Only Brittany Gordon managed to score in double figures for the Hokies with many of those points coming after the game was decided. "Duke's defense got us rattled and forced a lot of turnovers, that broke the game open and affected our defensive end," said Virginia Tech Head Coach Beth Dunkenburger. "We threw a lot of things out the window that make us good on defense and that's when it went from a 10 point game to a 30 point game. We're struggling to get in sync. Duke's defense got us tired, we played hard for 40 minutes but I'd like to see us play better for 40 minutes."

Duke next heads to Maryland where the Terps 48 game home winning streak was snapped by Miami tonight. "Maryland is our next opportunity to grow as a team," said McCallie, whose Blue Devils now sit atop the ACC standings.
