Duke squandered an early 13 point lead and survived a late Hokies surge for a 65-53 ACC win today in Blacksburg. Jasmine Thomas had a great offensive game, scoring 22 points on 8-15 shooting and distributing five assists. Karima Christmas poured in 15 points, seven of which came after Tech took a 42-41 lead with 7:50 remaining. Duke's trouble spots aligned with our Valentine heart "keys to the game" with the Devils earning just one heart. Passing was pretty crisp, 13 assists versus just 14 turnovers, but the Devils were outrebounded 37-34. Krystal Thomas had 10 boards, but Tech's Shanel Harrison matched that total and scored 14 points. #20 Lindsey Biggs was free more often than not, scoring 13 points on 3-7 three point shooting, with a number of those misses just rimming out. As Duke's defensive stopper, Keturah Jackson's assignment was to keep Biggs in check, but foul trouble kept KJ and Allison Vernerey on the bench for much of the game, Vernerey DQ'ed with an offensive foul in the waning moments. Still, Duke improves to 9-1 in the league, looking forward to another tough road challenge at Georgia Tech next Friday night. |
