THE NUTSHELL

In a brutal game featuring hand-to-hand combat at both ends, Duke outlasted Georgia Tech to go to 10-1 in the ACC, still a full game ahead of Florida State. The Devils also eliminated the Jackets from the possibility of the top seed, dropping them to 6-5 in the league. Offense was hard to come by for both teams in this game, especially in the first half when the they combined for 16-58 shooting and turned the ball over 23 times. Duke squandered an early lead but never let Tech get too far away from them. The Devils took over early in the second half, let the Jackets back in and then went ahead for good with ten minutes left. A game ending 27-12 run established Duke as the victors in what was a battle of wills as well as a contest in physical endurance. Jasmine Thomas set the pace for Duke with 20 points. Karima Christmas and Krystal Thomas both chipped in with 10 points apiece. Krystal's play in the second half was the key to Duke's win as she scored all 10 points in the final ten minutes. Duke held Tech star Alex Montgomery to just 5 points on 1-8 shooting, while Brigitte Ardossi needed 16 shots to get her 14 points. While this game wasn't a thing of beauty, Duke never let up on defense and was able to execute on offense when they needed to.
