Duke's had some unlikely wins this season, but none quite like this. Down by 20 to an NC State squad with a .500 record at the beginning of the second half, Duke couldn't score and could barely stop the hard-charging Wolfpack Women. Duke started to focus and put points on the board, but timely buckets by State kept their lead at 18 with under eleven minutes to go in the game. From there, Duke went on a game-ending 28-9 run fueled by juniors Shay Selby (9 points in the second half) and Kathleen Scheer (4 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in the second half). Duke cut the lead to 59-49 with under eight minutes to go and 61-56 with under five minutes to go. Krystal Thomas, who scored 7 of Duke's last 12 points, put Duke ahead with under two minutes to go, and Chelsea Gray scored the game-winning basket with under ten seconds left. Duke survived two cracks at the basket by State to pull out the improbable win and maintain their undefeated record. State coach Kellie Harper, visibly distressed in the post-game press conference, said that "We're broken-hearted and disappointed", but her team was valiant in defeat. For Duke, they once again did what was needed in order to win. In this case, they shot 56% in the second half, forced 14 turnovers (scoring 14 points off of them) and forced State to play not to lose, instead of playing to win as they did for the first thirty minutes of the game.
