ACC QF: #1 Devils Thump #9 Wake, 79-50

Duke survived a hyperextended knee from Jasmine Thomas to blow away Wake Forest in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament, 79-50. The Devils spotted them a quick 4 points before going on a 12-0 run, capped by a J.Thomas three. That's the play where she got tangled up with Shay Selby and hurt her knee, though it was immediately evident that she was capable of putting pressure on her knee. Still, it was a scary time for the Devils, especially when Wake scored 4 quick points to pull within 12-8. Shay Selby, starting in place of Tricia Liston (who sliced off the top of one of her fingers), rallied the troops by hitting a three, scoring in transition and finding Chloe Wells for a three. That triggered a 15-0 run that gave Duke complete command of the game at 30-11 with six minutes to go in the half. Jasmine returned to finish out the run with a basket in transition.

Duke started to get a little careless in the second half as Wake got center Sandra Garcia going. On two separate occasions, the Deacs cut Duke's lead to 12 points. The first time this happened, forward Richa Jackson blunted that charge with 4 points and an assist. The second time this happened (with 11:38 to go), Chelsea Gray hit back-to-back threes to push the lead up to 53-35. That was part of a 10-0 run that pushed Duke's lead over 20. Once that happened, Wake never threatened again. Duke quickly built the lead up to 27 points and it hovered around that point the rest of the game. This game was a fairly ideal scenario for Duke in that they got a good workout and experienced some real game pressure without any player having to extend themselves too hard. Everyone played between thirteen and twenty-four minutes, and all 11 players scored. The Devils will have a much more physical matchup against Georgia Tech in the semi-finals.
