Duke Starters

KT had a quietly effective game. Every one of her scores seemed to come at important junctures, as she scored in transition during Duke's early establishing run, scored after a brief field goal drought in the first half, and then hit key shots in the second half when Tech was coming back. What was best about her play was the way she was finishing shots with contact, which has sometimes been an issue for her. Krystal certainly did the job in limiting Tech center Sasha Goodlett; after a big game against Maryland's tough front line, Krystal held her to 6 points and 3 rebounds. She'll need to be her best against a deep UNC front line that will look to double her at every opportunity.

Allison Vernerey

Alli has some kind of upper-respiratory infection that kept her awake much of the night, and it was obvious that her energy was starting to flag in the second half, as she only played six minutes. Still, she played well in those limited minutes, scoring 2 early baskets in the post, hitting a free throw and then finishing on a pass from Jasmine. She also came up with a tremendous block. Duke's defense suffered in her absence, as the Jackets were able to open looks inside that simply weren't there when she was in the game. Her quickness and length make her difficult to beat to the basket. Duke needs her to get as much rest as possible tonight, because they will have no chance to beat the Heels without her.

Karima Christmas

Karima was magnificent in this game, getting into attack mode early and often. She stroked a three in the early going, which is usually a sign that she's about to have a big game. Later in the half, she had a steal & layup, found Gray for a three and then pulled up to hit a mid-range jumper. She did turn the ball over a bit (including an offensive foul), but made up for it with relentless work on the boards. In the second half, she hit all sorts of high-pressure shots. She helped pushed Duke's lead with a couple of early free throws and a drive. Rima ended a Duke drought by holding on to a great pass from Wells. She got a crucial stickback when Tech got as close as 55-53. She scored on a drive to put Duke back up by 8, then found K.Thomas inside when Tech scored again. Late in the game, she hit 2 more free throws and dished to J.Thomas for a game-clinching jump shot. If she can play like this against UNC, the Devils will have a great chance of winning the ACC title.

Jasmine Thomas

Jasmine took it a bit easy in this game in the sense that she didn't have to be a volume shooter. That's not to say that she didn't have a big hand in this game, but it wasn't the worse thing in the world for a player whose knee is a bit sore to let her teammates take more shots. In the first half, she sank a 15' jumper and was 3-4 from the foul line and acted mostly as a distributor. She found Vernerey inside, Christmas in the corner for a three and Selby for a three late in the half. She opened up the second half with a three and hit a 17' jumper to essentially salt the game away. She scored a layup in the waning moments of the game as the coup de grace.

Shay Selby

Shay played quite well, especially in the first half when she hit an early jump shot and a late three. She threw an amazingly accurate pass to K.Thomas in transition for a three point play. She found KT for another basket plus one in the second half, but most of her minutes went to Gray and Wells in the half, which I thought was curious. I can understand playing Gray as much as possible, but Selby was playing quite efficiently against Tech, and expanding the rotation didn't do anything to help Duke.

Haley Peters

Haley was pressed into heavy service in this game with Vernerey feeling ill and K.Thomas experiencing some foul trouble. She hit a hook shot in the first half and came up with a steal. In the second half, she hit a 12' jumper and a tough turnaround jumper during a crucial stretch for the team. Late in the game, she had a couple of bad turnovers with good intentions, trying to get some long passes going down the floor for transition scores. It was simply a case of trying to do too much and not being aware enough of what was actually happening on the floor. Haley will need to be a little more aware and a bit more physical against UNC.

Chelsea Gray

Chelsea is really rounding into form now, effortlessly taking over the team down the stretch. Her defense is still somewhat erratic, as she was late on some rotations, but when she locked in late in the game she made some crucial plays. Offensively, she looked smooth as ever, draining a three in the first half and getting assists to K.Thomas and Vernerey inside. Of all Duke's players, she's the most proficient at getting easy looks for the post players. In the second half, she hit a three to put Duke up by 12. Late in the game, she was 4-6 from the foul line and more importantly came up with 2 consecutive game-saving steals, including one on an inbounds pass. Chelsea is a bit loose with the ball at times (she had an open floor turnover with no pressure on her), but it's that very looseness that makes her such a fluid player.

Richa Jackson

Richa hit a smooth 15' jumper and scored on a drive late in the first half against the reeling Jackets, but she did lose her defensive assignment a couple of times, resulting in open jumpshots.

Leener played solid post defense but was no factor on offense.

Chloe had a brilliant pass to Karima for a score after Tech had run off 7 straight points, but committed an awful foul while trying to locate a three point shooter, putting Tech's Metra Walthour on the line for 3 shots.
