Duke Starters (from post to point)

Elizabeth Williams

Liz was pretty much unstoppable in this game, scoring in transition and with her unguardable left-handed hook shot from the right block. That's her bread-and-butter shot right now, and she's become much more comfortable setting up on the block. She finished a lob on a great pass from Selby, scored on stickbacks and also sank a couple of free throws. When she's in a nice rhythm, there's nothing an opponent can do to stop her. Williams also hauled in 13 rebounds and had 4 amazing blocked shots--attempts that looked like sure field goals before she came along. She also did a fine job of staying out of foul trouble.

Haley Peters

After playing just six minutes in the first half (which coach McCallie attributed to wanting to try out a four-guard lineup, but I also got the sense that McCallie wasn't played with Peters turning the ball over), Peters came out meaning business in the second half. She scored in transition, followed her own shot for a stickback, scored on a high-low set, found Williams in transition, hit a 15' jumper and then scored on a tough turnaround jumper in the lane. She wound up with a solid 5 boards as well.

Shay Selby

Shay had a quiet game as she couldn't get any of her 4 shots to land and turned the ball over 3 times - a bit more than usual. She did have some important plays at the end of the first half as she hit 3 foul shots and found Vernerey inside for a score. Selby also hit Williams with a perfect lob pass for a score and later found Williams in transition.

Chloe Wells

Another solid showing for Chloe, as she hit 2 foul shots, drained a jumper and scored on a drive in the first half. In the second half, she opened things up with a long jumper and closed things out with 2 more free throws and scored on another drive. While she didn't have any assists, she made passes that led to passes that became assists. Wells pressured the ball well, coming up with 3 steals and harassing Auburn point guard Morgan Jennings into 5 turnovers. Other than picking up 4 fouls, this was a fine game for Chloe.

Chelsea Gray

Chelsea looked half-asleep in the first half, firing off no-look passes to no one in particular on three occasions. She wasn't decisive with the ball and only hit 1 shot, a spectacular teardrop shot that banked in. Chelsea is in a tough spot as she's being charged to push tempo at all times, but she's making incredibly high-risk plays with 90-foot passes to players who aren't nearly in position to score. In the second half, she settled down and dished out three straight assists to start the period. She had the steal and shot that put Auburn away as she was fouled while making it. She took a crucial charge and piled up 7 rebounds to go with her 8 assists and 2 steals. Even on days when she's not at her best, Gray still stuffs a stat sheet.

Off the Duke Bench (in order of entry)

Allison Vernerey

Alli made some huge plays in this game. She began the game by confidently draining 2 foul shots. She scored Duke's last field goal of the half but also missed a few easy shots as well. In the second half, she had that huge steal and layup where she gracefully split two defenders on the way to the rim, and then a big-time stickback. Bringing that kind of energy off the bench clearly enervated Auburn and fired up her own team.

Richa Jackson

Richa had another high-impact game. When she came into the game, she scored in transition and on a turnaround, and then found Williams for a score. Her 10' fadeaway jumper put Duke up by 13 points in the first half. Her most impressive stat was her 9 rebounds (4 offensive, which coach McCallie described as "just incredible"), including a number where she jumped high and went toe-to-toe with her opponents. Her aggressiveness off the bench and greater overall focus has been a big boost for Duke so far this season.

Kathleen Scheer

Leener had a short (just four minutes) but solid stint. She had an impressive post move wherein she waited and waited to take the right shot at the right time in the first half, along with a couple of rebounds. She also drained 2 foul shots at the end of the game.

Amber Henson

Amber got some spot minutes and was taken a bit aback at how physical this game was. She turned the ball over when she was weak with the ball and generally seemed a bit jittery whenever she had the ball in her hands. That said, she did hit a foul shot, pick off a steal and get a good look at the basket with a three. I imagine she will continue to be brought along slowly.

Tricia Liston

2nd900-30-20-010-1-10000

This was unquestionably a tough game for Tricia, who is really struggling from the field. When it was clear her jumper wasn't falling, she tried attacking the post, only to see her shot get rejected on multiple occasions. She did have a nice assist to Jackson in the first half, but she didn't have much of an impact on this game. Liston is a gamer and I'm guessing she'll play better against Western Kentucky.

Ka'lia Johnson

Ka'lia was the last player off the bench and played some solid defense, even if she didn't scratch the stat sheet.
