Analysis and Stats (JS)

In memory of Jim Sabiston

Why Duke Won: Coach P will probably lament the 15 turnovers, but in the end it was Wake Forest's inability to hold the ball that gave the Blue Devils an easy win.

Why Wake Forest Lost: Did I mention that the Deacs turned the ball over a lot? That's a habit for them, and their record reflects that.

The Game Turned When...: Two straight Mykia Jones threes trimmed a 16-point lead to 10 with 9:28 remaining in the game. Greenwell answered seconds later, followed by a Stevens layup, and it was all over.

X-Factor: Duke attempted 12 more shots than the Deacs Thursday night, a result of the strong defense and 11 second chance points.

Areas For Improvement: The younger Blue Devils need to continue to value the basketball, and their run through the ACC should go smoothly until it's time to head to Greensboro. Wake Forest needs a point guard. One. Coach Jen Hoover needs to pick somebody and groom them. That team is loaded with sophomores, so she has time- but she needs to develop that talent.

Ramifications: Duke has now won four straight games, and sit at 8-2 in the conference. Wake Forest is going nowhere fast, sitting at 10-14 and 1-9 (!) in the conference. Hoo, boy.

Did Not Want - "Wake's Shooters Hitting More than Ten Threes": Wake was a respectable 7-13 from downtown, but on a night where Duke uncharacteristically protected the basketball, 23 Deacon turnovers nullified that threat.
