| New Coaches, New Feel on ACC's Biggest Stage | |
2010 was a very different year in the ACC, and that trend continued in the Greensboro Coliseum. It was a tournament of firsts, as ACC Coach of the Year Joanne P. McCallie took home her first ACC Tournament title for Duke in just three tries, defeating a plucky Wolfpack squad led by first year Head Coach Kellie Harper. It was also the year that Wake Forest's Mike Petersen finally came to Greensboro with a healthy third scorer, and he celebrated at center court rather than immediately walking off in defeat. Second year Boston College Head Coach Sylvia Crawley broke through with a trip to the semifinals, showing us some wonderful outfits during that run, and all three are included in the gallery following. But with these new beginnings also came some endings. For the first time in ACC Tournament history we saw a semifinal doubleheader without the presence of Debbie Ryan, Sylvia Hatchell, or Kay Yow, though a Yow banner throughout the tournament reminded all of her legacy. Hatchell failed to advance UNC to the quarterfinals, a first matched by the Tar Heel men a week later on the same floor. The first night of the tournament also brought the final Clemson coaching appearance for former Yow player Kristy McKinney, who ended speculation with her resignation the Wednesday following the tournament.
