USC Upstate -- Sunday, December 11th @2:00PM in Cameron Indoor Stadium 2011 USC Upstate Snapshot: 17-13, 13-7 Atlantic Sun WBI First Round Last Meeting: This is the first meeting between the two schools. Current Records: Duke 6-2, USC Upstate Current Rankings: Duke #6, USC Upstate unranked. Significant Losses: The big loss is forward Chelsea McMillan, a powerful scorer (17 ppg) and rebounder (11 rpg). Returning Players: The biggest fish in this Atlantic Sun pond is Tee'Ara Copley, an explosive guard who put up 15 ppg, 4 apg and 2 spg. She's really the only ACC-level player on this team. Also returning are wings Kendra Wallace (8 ppg) & Madisen Webb (8 ppg) and forward Lauren McRoberts (7 ppg). Also returning are guard Logan Castlebury (2 ppg) and wing Kim Roach (6 ppg, 3 rpg). The Skinny: This program just moved up to Division I four years ago and it's obvious they're having growing pains. Without McMillan, they can't hope to match up with most opponents--and they aren't skimping on non-conference competitiveness. They've already been pounded by Vanderbilt, UNC and Auburn. They've lost--by double digits--to the likes of Radford, North Greenville and Norfolk State. Copley is a dynamic player who's putting up 19 ppg (and had 34 in the team's only win), but she also turns the ball over nearly five times a game. The Spartans are small (no significant players over 6-1) and so are -16 on the boards. They turn the ball over 20 times a game. They only score 54 ppg. In other words, this is a team Duke will take their frustrations out on after losing to Kentucky. As long as Copley doesn't go crazy, look for Duke to press early in an effort to get easy points and crash the offensive boards. This will be a test of focus and fundamentals for the Blue Devils.
