Ali didn't get a lot of touches, but Coach G was OK with this. Tech sent a couple of players to shadow her at most times, preventing her from getting into good scoring position. After her first 2 buckets, she didn't have another field goal until she scored on a drive late in the game. Ali's defense was dominant as usual, erasing many shots. She was also strong on the boards, getting several tough caroms in traffic.

Carrem Gay

Carrem Gay

Carrem's mobility was perfect for an athletic opponent. She was everywhere on the floor, finishing on cuts, grabbing steals, setting up her teammates, sinking free throws, and driving in for three point plays. She and Smith hooked up twice, with Nish looking to set her up from the wing. Carrem is a perfect complementary player, and if she's ready to finish on her opportunities against Maryland, then Duke will be in good shape.

Nish was up-and-down in this game. She had several awful turnovers in the first half, with passes thrown to no one in particular. On the other hand, she also had several assists to Gay & A.Waner, sank a three and had a couple of threes. It was odd to see her have so much trouble guarding Nnamaka, considering her strong defensive showings this year.

Abby Waner

Abby Waner

Abby just went off in this game. Left open time and again, she responded by nailing shot after shot--several of them from way beyond the three point line. Waner kept things simple--she finished 3 fast breaks and and a cut in addition to her threes. Just as important, her defense on Higgs was excellent, blocking a couple of shots and rarely giving her an inch. An extremely efficient game.

Lindsey Harding

Lindsey Harding

Lindsey started the game looking for her own shot. During one four minute stretch in the first half, she had 7 points and 2 assists as Tech had chance of handling her. Harding's shot looked smooth and she mentioned that she just felt "in rhythm" in the first half as she drained 2 threes. With the game firmly in hand in the second half, Lindsey only took 3 shots. One was one of her "one-woman fast break" specials. Of course, her lock-down defense on Nnamaka made things extremely difficult for the Jackets to develop any kind of rhythm of their own. Lindsey was always a great defender and distributor, but it's her leadership that's really impressing now.

Emily Waner

Em had a solid game, nailing a three in the second half and finding Harding & her sister for treys. More importantly, she did a nice job on Nnamaka & Higgs at various points. She did get her pocket picked a couple of times for easy scores, but overall is looking very comfortable playing with most of the first stringers.

Bridgette Mitchell

Bridgette Mitchell

Bridgette got some extended playing time in the first half, entering the game ahead of Cheek. Unfortunately, she blew one defensive assignment and gave up a three point play on another. She only played ten minutes thanks to her game-long foul trouble. Bridgette is a player who could have a big impact againt Maryland thanks to her ability to grab offensive rebounds, but she needs to be able to make better decisions and better reads on defense.

Joy Cheek

Joy Cheek

Joy had a solid game off the bench. She did have a couple of turnovers, but the game is clearly slowing down a bit for her. Cheek had a crucial tip-in in the first half and got rewarded in the second half. She finished a high-low from Gay and then turned the tables and set up Gay in the same fashion. Joy then showed off her shooting touch by sinking an 18' jumper and drove in for a score, getting fouled instead. Cheek is perhaps the most important player on the bench at the moment. She has a lot of talent and there's an enormous need for her services given Chante Black's absence.

It'll be interesting to see how much playing time Brit gets in real games, given the increasing confidence with which Em is playing. She had an assist to Cheek but otherwise was unremarkable, missing a couple of threes.

Keturah Jackson

After some promising performances earlier in the year, KJ is looking less comfortable in more limited minutes. She had a shot blocked and 3 turnovers (including an offensive foul). KJ did dig a little deeper and came up with a couple of late, hustling steals.
