The Nutshell
One brilliant half was all that was needed for Duke to put away an
overmatched Boston College club. In a game where Lindsey Harding and
Alison Bales weren't necessarily at their best, Wanisha Smith did a
brilliant job in shooting & distributing the ball. She also threw a
defensive blanket over Kindyll Dorsey when she was in the game. In the
last ten minutes of the first half, Bridgette Mitchell was a
one-woman gang, scoring 14 points on stickbacks, cuts and great catches
near the basket. During one six minute segment, she scored those 14
plus one 1 assist--all of Duke's scoring during that span. Bridgette
single-handedly kept Duke's lead in the teens, outscoring the
Eagles 14-13 therein.
After leading by 19 at halftime, the Devils pushed the lead to as much as
27 in the second before BC made a bit of a comeback. Nine Duke players
got at least 13 minutes of playing time, and no one played more than 27
minutes. Mitchell wound up with a career-high 20 points, Smith had 13
points, 7 assists and 0 turnovers, and Carrem Gay bounced back from a
mediocre showing against Wake with 10 points. The Devils clinched a tie
for at least second place in the ACC with this win.
